Blog Event – Finish It

There is one short sentence, maybe a short paragraph. The start to a little story. There will be a new one every Wednesday. Your job is to write a short story. Finish, what I’ve begun.

The rules are simple:

  • Post the short story with the given start to it on your blog. It does not matter if you post it on Wednesday. Feel free to write it any given day (we can just pretend it’s Wednesday…)
  • Link it back to this page
  • Use less than 3500 words (just write…)
  • Mention this blog event and this blog in a short intro (not included in the word count)
  • When done writing invite any number of other bloggers to join in by asking “what would you make out of this ‘blogger name’?”
  • Use the Tag Finish it for your post.

I will reblog your posts on this blog and also list them on this page for further references.

And now let’s see what we will get 🙂

Head over here for your intros and find a list of all the stories here.

  1. Okay, so how do I get it on your blog? I know you’ve read it, but I don’t see it over here. Blogging, some of this is so foreign and confusing to me!

  2. “COWBOY”

She carefully opened the door, not sure what to expect. It had been a while since she has visited. Nothing was the way she remembered and when her eyes finally got adjusted to the dark, what she saw made her shiver. She reached out into the darkness searching for something to hold onto as she felt her knees begin to buckle.

“It can’t be,” she said, barely above a whisper.

“Hello beautiful. It’s been a long time,” he said.

She blinked several times, shaking her head no.

He reached for her, gently pulling her into that once familiar embrace. “It’s me.”

Her first instinct was to break free and run away, but the aroma of his aftershave, and the security she felt in his arms intoxicated her.

They hadn’t seen each other in thirty years, but at this very moment, time had rewound, and she was twelve years old again – the first time she’d laid eyes on the boy, now man, she knew as “Cowboy”.

“I’m either dreaming or I’m dead, because there’s no way that you’re here with me,” she said.

There were times in the past when she frustrated him so, that he could scream. “What can I do to prove to you that this isn’t a dream, and that we’re not dead?”

    She shrugged, unconvinced.

“You always had a stubborn streak, but that was one of the things that was endearing about you all those years ago,” he said, smiling. “Wait here. I want to show you something.”

He returned to her side, a small box in his hand. “Open it.”

Inside the box, she found the gold-plated pin he had given her when they were boyfriend and girlfriend in seventh grade. She fingered the curves of the pin, as tears slid down her cheeks.

Slowly, the veil of fog from the anesthesia began to lift. She had no idea how many hours she’d been unconscious. As she opened her eyes a little, in the palm of her hand lay the pin that “Cowboy” had given her so long ago.

“Hello beautiful…..It’s been a long time.”

  3. Is there something I need to click in order to join, or just join by participating? (And are there reminders or do I have to remember to check each week?) Not trying to be a pest…just new to the event thing (via Blogging101).

  4. I always read the other stories after writing my own because I do not want to be influenced in any way whatsoever… And what happens on Finish it #4? We all had a common thread in our stories.

    Wow! Pretty neat!

  5. That’s a pretty cool idea. I’ll have to keep this in mind. I’m stretched so thin right now with writing, between the kids, the flash fiction blog I follow and my own writing and critiques. I seriously need another me lol.
